This year's shipping market can be described as happy and worried. For shippers and freight forwarders, this is a disaster, while shipping companies gain a lot.

Maersk, a global shipping giant, recently announced their third quarter results, which were surprising

In the third quarter, the total revenue reached US $16.61 billion, a year-on-year increase of 67.7%; EBIT reached US $5.86 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.5 times.

The shipping performance in this quarter was affected by high freight charges, and the revenue was also very good. From US $7.1 billion to US $13.1 billion; EBIT also increased from $4.4 billion to $5.3 billion.

S ø Ren Skou, Maersk's CEO, said: "Maersk is focusing on expanding its long-term contract business. At present, 67% of our contracts are long-term contracts, compared with 50% last year. This represents our strategic transformation."

Nevertheless, the official said that Maersk would not ignore the short-term contract market because it is necessary for flexibility. Freight forwarders can continue to book shipping space through Maersk's spot products.

Maersk acquired a freight forwarding giant and aimed at the air transport market

Just a few days ago, Maersk officially announced that it would acquire Senator international, a freight forwarding giant located in Hamburg. This is a well-known global freight forwarder with strong air transportation services.

The freight forwarder has 64 offices worldwide, distributed in 21 countries and regions in Europe, America and Asia. In addition, the technical advantages of its platform will accelerate the integration with aviation and LCL LCL products.

In addition, in order to expand the development of aviation business, Maersk is investing a number of aircraft in its business. In order to operate and manage the air transportation business, Star Air will become a key tool to support Maersk Logistics services.

However, Maersk is not the only shipping company targeting the air transport market. Its competitor CMA CGM established CMA CGM air cargo in February this year.

No wonder, because air freight has been rising recently. Many shipping companies are eyeing the profits of this market.
