Faced with the impact of the epidemic and high import demand, many ports around the world have fallen into varying degrees of congestion. British ports are one of them.
It is understood that Britain's major container ports are full of containers, and no one claims the goods inside. At the same time, other Nordic ports have also experienced serious congestion.
Insiders said that there is a shortage of truck drivers in Britain. This has led to the lack of timely turnover of many containers in the past few weeks.
On October 5, felixtor, an important British port, suspended the return of empty containers by Maersk, Evergreen Group and other shipping companies.
Evergreen Group said that the shortage of truck drivers in the UK and the influx of a large number of imported containers into the port have increased the detention time of containers in this port. This has led to port congestion.
So the company said it could only ship containers to other ports in the UK, such as Tilbury port, tisport port and Liverpool port.
Based on this situation, many containers are transferred to London's gateway port. On October 7, the port also decided to suspend the return of empty containers.
Although Evergreen Group will waive the cost of unloading, the shipper needs to bear additional transportation time and transportation expenses.
One freight forwarder said that if it was to be transferred to other ports for unloading, the additional cost of each container would reach US $680.
Moreover, transshipment to other ports will have an impact on the collection of goods in the future. This chain reaction has a greater impact than port congestion.
At the same time, Maersk, another large shipping company, also said that there is a large accumulation of containers in felixto port, and further port congestion can only be avoided by suspending the return of empty containers.
It is understood that some shipping companies are considering skipping British ports, transporting containers to Rotterdam port or Antwerp Port for unloading, and then transporting them back to Britain.
This obviously increases the arrival time and will have a serious impact on the supply of Christmas goods in the UK.
In this regard, felixto port issued a statement saying that they would increase the available space of the port.
Gla family would like to remind the freight forwarders and freight forwarders of goods going to British ports in the near future to focus on the latest developments so as not to affect the delivery time of goods.
