According to the latest data of vessels value, there are nearly 427 ships waiting for unloading outside ports around the world. The total capacity is up to 2914445teu.


This is an increase of 14% compared with 376 ships in previous months, and the congestion is further deepening. The most serious of these is the ports of the United States and China.


Los Angeles / Long Beach port


The two ports are important ports connecting the United States and Asia. Since last year, the two ports have handled a total of 8.8 million containers, accounting for 40% of the total in the United States.


Now the congestion in these two ports is still increasing. According to the latest data, there are nearly 100 container ships waiting to enter the port outside the port.


Some experts pointed out that if these waiting ships are connected end to end, the total length may reach a terrible 2200 kilometers. This is equivalent to half the distance across the United States.


Congestion is also related to land transportation. For example, the railway and highway from the port to the inland are insufficient. Overall, the situation in the maritime supply chain remained tense by the end of this year.

Shanghai / Ningbo Port


If you still think that the ports of Los Angeles and long beach in the United States are the most congested ports in the world, you are very wrong.


According to eeSea, a shipping data provider, the number of ships waiting outside the ports of Shanghai and Ningbo had reached 154 as of September 24.


Among them, there are nearly 75 ships waiting outside Ningbo Zhoushan port alone, with a total capacity of 306538teu.


Ningbo port has experienced a double blow of the rebound of the epidemic and bad weather in recent months, which has exacerbated the congestion of the port. 


At present, there is a serious shortage of exported containers, and the turnover cycle of containers is long.


Vessels value staff believe that this situation is likely to be a side effect of economic recovery after the epidemic. It is the result of increased demand and insufficient transport capacity.


In general, the ports mentioned above are the main ports to maintain the normal operation of trans Pacific routes. 


Now shipping companies put a large number of ships into this route, and the transportation capacity of land transportation is insufficient. This has exacerbated congestion.
