Some time ago, container accumulation occurred in Chittagong. Due to the congestion of the transit port and the delay of berthing in Chittagong, the ICD of private inland container depots in Bangladesh was full of containers for export goods.
Recently, the port authority of Chittagong has paid close attention to this incident, hoping to solve the congestion crisis as soon as possible. As of yesterday, the port authority has introduced several feeder ships to alleviate the backlog of goods
According to relevant sources, nearly 80% of the export containers piled up in Chittagong are from Maersk. Due to the lack of vessels, a large number of containers failed to reach the destination.
Before this strategy came out, there were no redundant new ships on this route, but Maersk still made a large number of container bookings, because its ships could only be transported on this route.
Earlier, Chittagong terminal agreed to enter the port with two new ships of mediterranean shipping company. The first is 1000teu OEL India, sailing under the Panamanian flag, and the second is Hermann Schepers, a 1100teu container ship registered in Antigua and Barbuda.
The manager of MSC said that the two ships will be put into operation next week.
He also said that MSC decided to transfer two ships from other routes to alleviate the crisis because of the accumulation of containers due to the insufficient capacity of the current route.
On the other hand, Yongjia logistics also provided two new ships to help solve the problem of container accumulation, and the ships were approved by the Chittagong port authority.
The head of the Chittagong Port Authority said that the total capacity of the four new vessels could reach 7500teu, which could greatly alleviate the problem of container accumulation in Chittagong.
At a recent press conference, the Chittagong port authority pointed out that any ship provided by the company will be approved immediately. In addition, applications for other feeder lines of Chittagong will also be approved immediately.
The main purpose of this decision is to solve the problem of insufficient feeder transportation capacity of Chittagong, which seriously affects the import and export transportation of Bangladesh.
As we all know, Bangladesh is a big country in the production and manufacture of clothing, and the number of clothing exported from Bangladesh is second only to China.
Therefore, the congestion in Chittagong will certainly affect the export of clothing, so the government also attaches great importance to this congestion.
