According to the South Carolina Port Authority, the Leatherman Wharf will have five ship-to-shore cranes with a height of 169 feet.
There are also 25 hybrid rubber-tyred gantry cranes and a spacious container yard. After the full expansion, the terminal will increase the capacity of 2.4 million TEUs, which will double the current port capacity.
In March of this year, SCPA transported 248,786 TEUs between the Port of Charleston and the North Charleston Wharf. According to past container records, before this, the record for the most containers was 233,110 TEUs set in August 2019.
But in March 2020, due to the impact of COVID-19, SCPA only processed 185,631 TEUs.
According to SCPA, the volume of imported cargo at the Port of Charlton last month increased by 50% year-on-year, from 76,019 TEUs in March 2020 to 113,867 TEUs in March this year. This has promoted the continuous advancement of import and export trade.
SCPA said that due to the increase in demand for automobiles, the export of containers also increased by 8.2% year-on-year, from 73,077 TEUs to 79,077 TEUs.
At the same time, SCPA also stated that the inland port of Greer has set a new record. The record shows that a total of 16,688 rail transports were carried out in March, a year-on-year increase of 20.3% compared to 2020.
SCPA claims that Port Dylan, inland in the peeing area of South Carolina, conducted "nearly 3,000" rail transports in March, similar to the 2,823 reported in February.From July 1 to March 31, inland Port Dylan recorded 27,549 rail movements, an increase of 12.4% over the same period in 2020.
