Port congestion on the west coast of the United States has been greatly reduced. It is understood that the number of container ships waiting for berths outside LA/lLB port has dropped to a new low this year, down 81% from the peak in January.
However, the inland traffic of the port is still quite congested. This causes a large number of containers to pile up in railways and warehouses.
At present, the vacancy rate of the warehouse is about 0.3%. In addition, the delay at Meidong port has intensified. The shipping company reported that the delay time of the ship was up to three weeks.
According to the latest data released by the port of Los Angeles, as of June 28, there were 20 container ships waiting to berth outside the port of la/lb, down 81% from the peak of 109 ships in early January this year.
At present, the total number of imported containers on the port of Los Angeles is 72567, of which 28256 have been stranded at the terminal for 9 days or more. The number of empty containers in the yard / warehouse inside and outside the wharf is 48746.
In terms of railway transportation, the port of Los Angeles recently received help from the White House to clear a large number of overstocked railway containers.
Since February, the number of containers transported by rail at the port has tripled, taking up dock space and causing congestion.
As of yesterday, there were 29020 containers waiting for railway transportation on the wharf, of which 17613 had been waiting for 9 days or more.
Some insiders believe that one of the causes of inland traffic congestion is the labor problem. The two-year long negotiations between the railway company and the trade union have not yet succeeded.
This would make it possible for the US government to intervene to prevent possible strike action. After the trade union rejected the mediation proposal, nearly 115000 railway workers will strike as soon as July 18.
In terms of storage, Servoka, the executive director of La port, said last week that the vacancy rate of storage facilities in Southern California is currently about 0.3%, while under normal circumstances, the vacancy rate should be maintained at about 5%.
In terms of truck shipping, Matt, CEO of the port freight Association, said that 70% of truck drivers are unwilling to enter the port during off peak hours, because some nodes of the supply chain usually do not operate around the clock.
Before the bottleneck appeared, truck drivers could pick up containers in the early morning and store them in the truck yard until the warehouse was open, but now these yards are full of empty containers and trailer chassis.
Maersk also announced recently that in the past month, the operation of Meidong port has changed, affecting the waiting time of ships at various ports.
Some ports are increasingly congested. Compared with the terminal capacity, there are more ships, and the long-term stranded containers lead to insufficient storage yard space.
In addition, Maersk also shared the current delays at major ports in the east of the United States: the delay at NY/NZ port was the most serious, and the waiting time for container ships was up to three weeks; Up to two weeks in Houston port; The delay time of ships in Savannah port is 8 to 12 days; 3-5 days for both Miami port and Freeport, and 2-3 days for Charleston port.
