With the full resumption of normal production and operation in Shanghai, the export containers piled up in Shanghai port will be transported to ports around the world.

American ports, in particular, are expected to receive hundreds of thousands of containers. This is a great challenge for port operators.

Although the congestion in American ports has eased some time ago, there are still nearly 100000 containers piled here.

La port recently said that it handled 887000 standard containers last month. In the first four months of this year, the port handled more than 3.5 million standard containers.

According to data from piers, a data provider, as of April, the total volume of goods imported by the United States from Asia was 6.5 million TEUs, an increase of 2.7% over the same period last year. The import volume in April was 1.7 million TEUs.

However, the import volume of Asian goods at LA/LB port decreased by 3.9%. However, at the same time, the Asian import volume of NY/NZ port increased by 12.8% year-on-year, and that of Savannah port increased by 8.8%.

According to the data of the Southern California Maritime exchange (MESC), the number of containers queued outside the LA/LB port decreased to 22. However, the number of ships queuing outside NY/NZ port on the east coast has increased significantly.

Some experts pointed out that this was mainly because the west coast port workers started contract negotiation recently. In order to avoid delay in delivery, some of the goods were diverted to ports on the east coast of the United States.

According to the data of NY/NZ port authority, an average of 18 ships were waiting outside the two ports every day last week. There were nearly 15 container ships waiting for unloading at Savannah port on the 23rd.

So, Maersk, a shipping company, said that in view of the problems of continuous port congestion affecting the shipping schedule, it is expected that LA/LB port will soon implement the measures announced last year - the collection of container detention charges.

When the peak season comes, the cargo volume increases, aggravating the container detention time

Gene seroka, the executive director of LA port, said that the time that containers stay in the port is now three times longer than before the outbreak. Railway capacity has increased sixfold since February.

According to the data of the pacific merchant shipping association, in April, at LA/LB port, containers stayed in the port for an average of 6 days before being picked up by truck, while it took 9 days to transport by rail.

Obviously, this year's peak transportation season may be much earlier than in previous years. According to a container x change survey of shipping industry professionals, nearly three-quarters of the respondents think that this year's peak season is as bad as last year's.

GLA Family reminds freight forwarders and shippers to pay attention to the latest port information and keep close contact with shipping companies to avoid delay in delivery of goods.
