Affected by the epidemic and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, a large number of goods have piled up in many ports in Germany recently. Data show that nearly 20 ships waited for several days at Bremen and Hamburg before berthing.
Buchacade terminal of Hamburg Port is one of the four major container loading and unloading terminals in Germany. At present, there are eight ships waiting there. The person in charge of the terminal said: "the congestion of the terminal is very serious now. We need to add more terminal workers to deal with the congestion of containers and cargo ships."
However, in fact, this still can not meet the needs of large-scale cargo handling. As a result, more and more containers are piled up at the wharf.
In this regard, some experts said: "the situation may be worse in the next few weeks, and these high costs will eventually be passed on to consumers."
Siegfried russwurm, President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), said: "German industry is worried that the production process will be disrupted in the coming weeks. Now customers have felt the impact of international logistics, and the transportation price has more than doubled."
As Eid al Fitr approaches, Chittagong may face serious congestion
In Bangladesh, the pace of Eid al Fitr is getting closer and closer, which is obviously a big challenge for Chittagong.
It is understood that some ships have been in the port for nearly a week, and about 13 container ships are waiting at the anchorage outside the port.
The total capacity of the container yard is 49018TEU, while there are nearly 42000TEU containers on the yard at present. This has exacerbated congestion in the port.
In order to prevent the impact of traffic congestion on the port, the Bangladeshi government decided to ban trucks transporting non necessities from high-speed transportation. From April 29, almost all factories in the country will be closed and reopened on May 8.
The port official said that during the holiday, the unloading of container ships will continue. Except on the day of Eid al Fitr.
The shipping company is worried that because truck transportation will be stopped during the holiday, most of the goods will stagnate in the port and can not be delivered in time.
Some experts said that the port yard may encounter unprecedented congestion, and there may be a long queue of ships in the anchorage outside the port.
But, Omar, head of Chittagong port authority, said: "the port will experience the same situation every year because importers are unwilling to pick up containers during holidays. We will also urge customers to pick up goods as early as possible to ensure smooth operation of the port."
